TDWC and HDWA recently met with the Hobart City Council CEO Michael Stretton.
It would appear that dogs are once again facing being banned from the South Hobart Oval (also known as Darcy St Oval).
South Hobart Football Club has been lobbying for a ban for 6 years. It is critical that dog walkers contact all HCC Aldermen/Councillors to convey their opinions.
The Council claim the SHFC complaints are dog urine discolouring and killing grass causing safety issue and fear of disease.
There are fears that once the dogs get booted the community may also be barred. With Access to Darcy Street gone it sets a precedent for all other sports fields that are currently shared spaces. For example we may lose access to sites such as Mount Nelson Oval, Clare Street Newtown and the Domain. Given that Wellesley Street Oval is also used by SHFC, it's highly that dogs may be banned from there as well.
The South Hobart community has successfully shared the sports field for many years.
